About Sutton Place
Sutton Place, as covered here, runs from 53rd Street up to 59th Street, east of First Avenue to the East River. Sutton Place and Sutton Place South run along the bluff above the FDR Drive.
The riverfront blocks have some of Manhattan’s best-known pre-war co-ops, along with a small group of townhouses on Sutton Square and Riverview Terrace, a private lane above the river. Most of the neighborhood’s homes, though, are in larger post-war elevator buildings: about 60% of units are in buildings from 1940 to 1979.
The Queensboro Bridge crosses the river at the northern edge, and the Roosevelt Island Tram leaves from Second Avenue at 60th Street.
