About Kips Bay
Kips Bay, as covered here, runs from 23rd Street to 34th Street, from about Park Avenue South to the East River. Its western blocks are sometimes called Rose Hill.
Most of the neighborhood was rebuilt after World War II; about half of its homes are in buildings from 1940 to 1979. Kips Bay Plaza, two long concrete slabs designed by I. M. Pei and completed in the early 1960s, fills the blocks between 30th and 33rd Streets and First and Second Avenues.
First Avenue is lined with medical campuses, including NYU Langone and Bellevue. Second and Third Avenues have most of the shops and restaurants, and the side streets west of Third Avenue keep a number of older row houses.
